The Alabama Room houses an excellent and expanding collection of historical and genealogical materials. The primary goal for the collection is to actively collect and catalog materials pertaining to the city of Anniston, Calhoun County, the surrounding counties and the state of Alabama in general. Through a Federal LSTA grant, the library is in the process of digitizing the most important manuscript collections, photographs, and fragile documents.

The Alabama Room Collection presently contains over 11,000 printed volumes, 10,000 rolls of microfilm, numerous bound periodicals, vertical file clippings, family files, photographs, paintings, maps, manuscripts, and computer-based research materials. Significant holdings include U.S. Censuses 1790-1900 for all Southern States, 1920 Census for Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas; 1930 Alabama Census and Soundex; Alabama Confederate Soldiers' Military Records, Calhoun County newspapers 1827 - present; Calhoun County Court Records (including marriage records, deeds, mortgages and early Circuit Court records), and Calhoun County Cemetery Records. The Alabama Room possesses one of only five existing sets of the Leonardo Andrea Collection - 80 microfilm rolls containing lifetime research of South Carolinian professional genealogist, Leonardo Andrea. Other areas of strength include Revolutionary War Pensions and Bounty Land Warrants, Alabama Confederate Civil War Service Records and Pensions, American Indian studies, and materials relating to the surrounding counties of Cleburne, Clay, Randolph, Talladega and St. Clair. A large collection of early Anniston photographs is a part of the Alabama Room Collection.
